Mariner High School is hosting the 6th Annual Silver Magic Car and Bike Show, the school’s largest fund-raiser of the year, on Saturday.
Each year the school takes in between $12,000 and $15,000 in revenue from the show.
Classic cars and custom designed motorcycles will be on display at the school from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Earnest Graham from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a Mariner High alum who also attended the University of Florida, will return to greet the crowd and sign autographs from noon-2 p.m.
“We have cars and bikes from all generations that are modified and fully restored,” said Robert Yoho, organizer from the Mariner High School Band Booster
According to Yoho, the show will host more than 250 cars and motorcycles on display for approximately 2,000 spectators.
This year’s show will include a tethered hot air balloon ride on Mariner’s practice football field. RE/MAX Realty is donating the balloon, said Yoho, who said the rides will be open from 10 a.m. until the pilot says the weather is too windy.
It also features a fully judged show with 100 trophies awarded for car and motorcycle classes, a live disc jockey, door prizes raffled off all day and full concessions. Vendors from the industry will also be on hand to meet with spectators.
“You can only go up and down so its not a tour of the city kind of thing,” said Yoho.
Mariner’s jazz band, drum line and color guard will perform throughout the day. All students enrolled in the music program are also part of the Silver Magic Marching Band.
So far this year ,Yoho said pre-registrations for the event have increased, but sponsorships are down because of the state of the economy.
Pre-registrations to show a car or motorcycle were $15 and registrations on the day of the event are $20.
In order to attend the show, Mariner charges $5 per person with children 10 and younger receiving free admittance.
“It’s fun for all ages,” said Yoho. “We rely upon the proceeds to fund the band program through all of its competitions.”
