Police searching for suspect in bank account theft

By Staff

Police are searching for a suspect accused of stealing more than $1,800 from a Cape Coral woman’s bank account through fraudulent ATM transactions.

Police say the suspect, a woman, made at least seven or eight separate fraudulent transactions, and was caught on camera making several of the transactions through a drive-thru ATM.

The victim told police she had lost her ATM card and did not realize it until she reviewed her bank statements. The card had apparently been missing for several weeks between June and July.

Someone also made several deposits of worthless checks into the victim’s account and withdrew funds before the bank noticed the checks were bad, police said. Those transactions could be related to other active criminal cases.

The suspect is said to be driving a grey Nissan SUV equipped with a radar detector, bridge transponder and a Yankee Candle car freshener.

Anyone with information of the suspect’s identity is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 780-8477, or give tips online at: www.swflcrimestoppers.org. Callers can remain anonymous and are eligible for cash rewards up to $1,000.
