Things to do on Pine Island
People come to Pine Island and Matlacha for a variety of reasons — to fish, commune with nature, dine in numerous restaurants, take in a bit of history, and persue the many art galleries and shops with their brighly colored exteriors, evoking the flavor of Key West.

St. James City, located at the southern tip of the island, is Pine Island’s most heavily populated area.

On clear days you can see Cape Haze and Boca Grande Pass from Bokeelia, at Pine Island's northernmost tip. Tropical fruit and palm tree farms populate the area, which also boasts Pine Island's only golf course. Kayaking and canoeing around the island's bayous is also a very popular activity.

Matlacha's drawbridge is widely known as being the "world's most fishinigest bridge," attracting anglers year-round, night and day.

Although they may be "off the beaten path," Pine Island and Matlacha's unique auras attract a variety of both residents and visitors alike. The area has recently been dubbed the "Creative Coast" and has become a mecca for both artists and art lovers, as well as being a hub for fishermen and farmers. Once explored, you will never forget them.
