FL Guide

SalusCare's fifth annual "Laughter is the Best Medicine" event is scheduled for Aug. 17 at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre in Fort Myers.

The 2019 lineup of amateur local celebrity comics includes Lydia Black (executive director of the Lee County Alliance for the Arts), Scott Kashman (Chief Acute Care Officer at Lee Health), Liz Abbott (advisory board member and volunteer at Florida Repertory Theatre) and Dr. John Meyer (president of Hodges University). Two awards will be given that night after audience members vote with their dollars to crown the comic raising the most money and to the comic voted funniest.

The 2019 event will be co-emceed by national touring comic and veteran of the Laughter is the Best Medicine stage, Michael Palascak, and ABC-7 anchor Krista Fogelsong.

Back by popular demand will be last year's winner, Dr. Mike Martin, president of FGCU. Dr. Martin was a crowd favorite last year and will be returning to the Laughter stage.

Performing the grand finale at the 2019 event will be veteran stand-up comic Lisa Curry. Lisa is an internationally known touring comic and TV writer who began her career as part of Second City Hollywood's house improv ensemble where she performed with some of the most well-respected names in comedy. Lisa has worked as a creative on ad campaigns for both Amazon and Comedy Central and has written for MTV, Fuse, and TruTV. Her work is best described as smart, dark and deeply personal.

Event tickets are $150 and can be purchased at www.saluscarecomedynight.org. Event sponsorship opportunities are still available as well by calling (239) 791-1575.
