Celebrate this month's holiday, Halloween, aboard the Salty Sam's Pirate Ship for fun for the entire family.

"October is our favorite time of the year on the Pirate Ship," said Capt. Stephen Sepulveda in a prepared statement. "Guests get really involved with their costumes and both kids and adults love the costume contest."

Salty Sam's Marketing Director David Kastan said the Spooktacular Halloween Celebration is something they hold every year. It's a celebration where the boat is decked out in Halloween decorations and the Family Friendly Pirate Cruises have Halloween themed interactive shows with stories of ghosts, ghouls and sea monsters.

"We make it as fun as possible for the kids," Kastan said, including such regular activities as face painting, sword demonstrations and limbo.

Those who book a Pirate Cruise are encouraged to come dressed in costumes throughout the month of October.

"We encourage everybody to wear costumes on board," he said of both adults and children.

The month of celebration concludes on Saturday, Oct. 27, with a Kid's Halloween Cruise and Costume Party, which starts at 11 a.m., and the Adult's Only Halloween Cruise and Masquerade Ball at 8:30 p.m.

The Kid's Halloween Cruise travels out into the Gulf of Mexico for 90-minutes of fun.

"They go up and down the beach and right before they come back into the Pass they do a live canon fire," Kastan said.

Both the kid and adult cruises will include a best costume contest. Prizes will be given courtesy of Red Headed Witches.

The adult-only cruise will include a special barrel of rum from Wicked Dolphin that will be tapped during the Masquerade Ball.

"Wicked Dolphin gives us the barrel and rum and recipe. It ages for a month," Kastan said.

The adult cruise will also include a live DJ, as it is a party cruise with music and dancing.

Advance tickets are encouraged for the Oct. 27 Kid's Halloween Cruise and Costume Party, as well as the Adult's Only Halloween Cruise and Masquerade Ball. They can be purchased online at www.floridapiratecruise.com, or by calling (239) 765-7272.

The Pirate Ship leaves the dock Wednesday through Sunday at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Every Friday there is an adult only cruise that departs at 7 p.m.

The Salty Sam's Pirate Ship, a Pieces of Eight Pirate Ship, is a 65-foot replica Spanish Galleon with three decks for viewing, a full-service bar and two full washrooms. The ship is located at Salty Sam's Marina, home of Parrot Key Caribbean Grill, Bootleggers Waterfront Barbeque, and Sight Sea-R Cruises, at 2500 Main St.

"The Pirate Cruise has been sailing for more than 15 years. It's one of the most unique attractions on Fort Myers Beach," Kastan said. "Our adults-only cruises is certainly the most unique party cruise you will find anywhere in the area."
