FL Guide

Edison & Ford Winter Estates is offering teachers free admission October 28-29. Teachers are invited to be some of the first visitors to experience the new Smithsonian Spark!Lab exhibit.

The discount includes teachers in public and private schools, principals and support staff in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties.

The Smithsonian Spark!Lab is a hands-on, interactive exhibit for families and children. A series of rotating stations with themes from vehicle construction to understanding sound waves will challenge visitors to place themselves in the mindset of an inventor.

The entire site will be open to the public, including the historic winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, caretaker's houses, Edison's study, the 15,000-square-foot inventions museum and the National Chemical Landmark botanic research laboratory on more than 20 acres of gardens. Inside-the-Homes and Inside-the-Lab specialty tours will be offered.

Another new exhibit in the museum is the Timeline of Innovation. It's a chronological exhibit of both Edison's and Ford's major inventions. The timeline highlights achievements in dozens of fields and showcases some of the most interesting artifacts. It also depicts how Edison, Ford, and others built on earlier innovations to create their own inventions.

This offer cannot be combined with other discounts and excludes river cruise packages. For tour times or more information, call 239-334-7419 or visit
