Lovers Key
Voted one of the 10 top parks in Florida and ranking as the state's #4 park with the Travel Channel, Lovers Key is a group of mangrove islands with sugar-white sand beaches bordering the Gulf. This narrow strip of islands offers nature at its finest, and more than 600,00 people visit each year.

While many go for the excellent shelling, others head to Lovers Key for a lesson about birding, castnetting or salt water fishing, or tour of southwest Florida's nature. Native plants can be found throughout the walking and biking trails, which run for 2.6 miles. Occasionally one comes upon a gopher tortoise burrow. This tortoise has to be nature's most congenial host, sharing its hard-dug lair with everything from snakes to mice to insects.

On the Estero Bay side of the park, Lovers Key has picnic tables under gazebos, grills, and a playground for the kids.

For boaters, Lovers Key has a launch ramp on the bay side along with a concession selling the type of delicacies any fish you are after will jump in the boat to get. Kayak and bike rentals are also available here, aong with rest rooms and rinse-off showers.

Just to the south is Dog Beach — so named because your four-legged companions are welcome to swim and frolic off-leash. Be sure to bring plenty of water!

Entrance fees to Lovers Key are $2 for one person, $4 for 2-8. Walk-ins and bicycles pay a $1 fee. It is open from 8AM to sunset daily.
